Dali Travel Information | Transportation Suggestions

Arrival in Dali:

  • Lijiang is a cheap and relatively convenient option to Dali (127km). You can directly reach Dali Ancient Town in less than 2 hours by carpooling (cost 80-90 per person), which is the choice of many people who live in Dali. In contrast, if you land in Kunming, you need to transfer from the airport bus to the high-speed rail, the high-speed rail to Dali, and Dali Station to the ancient town, which takes more than four hours and costs at least more than 200 per person (145 for high-speed rail, 25 for airport bus, and 40 for Dali Station to the ancient town). When you land at Dali Airport, there are few flights, the cost is high, and it will be difficult to return during the windy season (December-April, not at present). It also takes 1 hour from the airport to the ancient town.
  • Kunming is also a good option: Kunming is a transportation hub with a large number of affordable flights and trains. From Kunming Airport, there is a direct bus to Kunming Railway Station (20 yuan) before leaving the terminal, which usually takes less than 1 hour. Then take the high-speed rail from Kunming Railway Station to Dali (about 145 yuan). Then take the hotel's shuttle bus, or an online taxi (please try not to take an illegal taxi, as you will face annoying sales pitches, and it is easy to get high prices or disputes).
  • Dali Airport (30km from the ancient city): Dali has Fengyi Airport, which has the advantage of direct access, but the disadvantages are that there are few flights and the price is high. The journey usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, and the time-consuming part is because it passes through the city of Dali. In addition, in the windy season (December-April), landing may be difficult in rare cases, and you may have to return to Kunming.
  • Carpooling : To get from Lijiang or Kunming to Dali, make an appointment for a carpooling platform in advance (preferred choice). If the platform is really unavailable, you can contact Liu Sanqi at 18987085657 (WeChat phone number), or 15125176744 (another sister). I sometimes contact them when I leave and return to Dali. They each have their own groups and can arrange a car for you at the nearest time. Currently, the price from Lijiang Airport to Dali is 80-100 per person. It fluctuates within the normal range due to oil prices and other reasons, and is generally reliable. Because this type of carpooling involves different drivers, there will be service differences. There will be common problems with carpooling, which will not be very thoughtful (I have also encountered situations where the pick-up is not on time, and the service attitude is good or bad). Expectations for this type of service should not be too high, as long as there is no accident. In addition, there are drivers waiting for guests to carpool at the arrival point of Lijiang Airport (usually carpooling drivers who send the airport and return to Dali). If the price is similar, it can also be an option.

Local Transportation:

Charter (better model): Recommended driver: 13170759527 (same number on WeChat), it is a fleet. I came across their car when a customer used it, and I had a good impression. Many customers have used it, and I have never received any negative feedback. But please note that there will be differences between drivers, especially in peak season. If there is bad service, please give him feedback in time. I can't guarantee a perfect charter, but I recommend it to everyone for reference, at least don't encounter outrageous situations, or if there are problems, they can be solved.

Another chartered car company, Mr. Fan: 13987202000, is the one we also use when we need it, and it is generally reliable.

Renting a car: Please try to use a formal platform and avoid roadside car dealerships. Roadside car dealerships that sell trendy cars for check-in and photo taking (such as Beetles, which are usually the main business of informal car dealerships) often have malicious car damage and extortion disputes, and many cars have problems (such as being nearly scrapped and refurbished).

Intercity transportation: WeChat mini program | Dianyue Travel

This is a reliable intercity bus service, such as traveling between Kunming, Lijiang, Baoshan, Tengchong, Yunlong (Nuodeng), affordable, and with many departures. It is very suitable for traveling to some remote areas. For Shaxi transportation, please refer to the "Shaxi section" below.

Bicycle rental:

Shengche Travel (Yuer Road, Ancient City, WeChat: S15331687170)

Recommended by guest ejing. The model, price and store information can be found on Dianping.com. They provide suitable child seats and child bikes, and good service. They have professional bicycle rentals (mountain and road), and provide breakdown assistance. They have a Xizhou store, and can return the bike to another place. The following is the cycling guide around Erhai Lake provided by their official account: Shengkai Bicycle | Cycling Guide around Erhai Lake

Randy, the manager of Xizhou store, has a sense of life and humanity in his diary, and you can see some admirable aspects of their work: Blooming Diary

Now we have jointly opened a cycling route to visit Dali Cangshan Mountain, villages and Erhai Lake

214 Cycling Station: A professional cycling bicycle shop in Caicun. One of our guests, Heiyuan, borrowed a Lightning and crashed it, damaging some parts. He thought he would have to pay hundreds of yuan (actual replacement value), but Mr. Wu said he would fix it himself and let him deal with the scratches first. He only charged a few dozen yuan, which touched him. WeChat: xiaoheizi54999. He has an inn upstairs and also organizes some cycling activities.

Shared electric vehicles "Didi Qingju" WeChat applet :

You can use electric motorcycles in the ancient city and nearby areas (to the three towers in the north and to the Gantong Villa in the south). Open "Didi Qingju" to see if there are any nearby. This is the best way to travel around the surrounding area. It is free and does not allow traffic jams, especially during the summer peak season. It is also a relatively large number of shared electric motorcycles that have only been put into use recently. There were no shared electric motorcycles before. However, if you want to leave the ancient city (such as Xizhou and Huanhai), you can't use them.

Daily travel taxi: Take a taxi online, try not to take illegal taxis, which is very convenient and fast, faster than in big cities and more affordable. It is better to take a taxi directly using the map provided by the merchant (such as us), because many locations in rural areas do not have a fixed house number or name, and there are many car models to choose from.

Electric scooters. Electric scooters are the most convenient and free way to get around Dali, especially during the summer and winter vacations and during the peak holiday seasons, as they are not affected by traffic jams. There are shared electric scooters called "Didi Qingju" in the ancient city and nearby areas. If you want to go to places far from the ancient city, such as Xizhou, you can rent a scooter. The most reliable one is "Hello Electric Scooter", which has many pick-up points. The key is that it is insured and guaranteed. If something goes wrong, there will be no disputes. You can open the mini program to check the nearest pick-up point. If you go around the sea, there is no problem, as there are battery replacement stations along the way.

For other private rentals, look for them nearby, they are almost the same. If you want to recommend: Try: Bicycle Shop: The intersection of Hongsheng Road and Xuefu Road, Dali University. The boss is taciturn and very nice. The convenience store next to Pu Shi Baking also has rentals. They should be more reliable.

Another one is on Sanyue Street: "There is a car rental company". My friend has used it and thinks it is good. Ordinary pedal cars (60km range) are about 40/day, and monthly rental is available (over 400 in the off-season, and the price varies with the market in the peak season). WeChat: j166176686, contact number: 18987074030. It is located near Sanyue Street.

Traffic suggestions during peak season:

According to experience, it is difficult to get a taxi during the peak season (winter vacation, Spring Festival). Rent a car or electric bike (shared motorcycles or private shops, suggestions are given above). If you live in a residential area near Dali University (such as Shanshuijian Phase 1, 2, and 3), near Dali Shanshuijian , you can not only walk to eat, coffee, and brunch, but it is also relatively easy to get a taxi, and there is basically no traffic jam. It is also convenient to start from here for our activities. The southern area of Dali's small courtyard is not very congested, and it is okay to get a taxi, but there are very few catering facilities within walking distance. Most of the ancient city is prone to traffic jams. If you stay in a homestay in a remote village, you must arrange a vehicle in advance. Rent a car, electric bike, or charter a car.

Our meeting point for activities:

Most of the hiking and handicraft activities are within 5 km of the ancient city, so it is convenient to stay near the ancient city, including the Erhai Lake in the ancient city area. Shuanglang and Haidong are not recommended to participate, as the meeting point is too far (50km), except for " Huoshan Sunset " and " Eryuan Countryside Tour ", " West Lake Paddle Board " and " Boat Stargazing ". Attached photos ( small scene drawing):

Some activities go up to 50km, such as "Eryuan Countryside Tour", "West Lake Paddleboard", "Fengyu Market" and "Huoshan Sunset". They will gather at "Pu Shi Baking" near Dali University, pass Xizhou (sometimes guests live there), and you can get on the bus directly along National Highway 214.
