In ancient times, Cangshan Mountain was a natural barrier for the Dali Dynasty. The southern part was the dragon's tail, and the northernmost part was the dragon's head. It was used to defend against attacks from Turpan, Mongolia and other countries in the north, hence the name "Longshou Pass".
We will only use this hiking route in winter and spring. Most peaks are closed to climbing during the fire season, so this route was developed.
In the winter off-season, we strolled through the villages on the top of the mountain, walked between the fields and villages, and gazed at the Erhai Lake in the distance.
The trip was shortened due to the change of winter routes, but it also allowed us to explore the villages in this corner of Cangshan Mountain in depth. In Dali's most leisurely season, agricultural activities such as tree pruning and composting were carried out in an orderly manner. We could see villagers driving their sheep into the mountains and letting them graze freely until the real winter came.
journey:
- 10:00 AM: Departure from Pu Shi Bakery in Dali Ancient Town
- 1:00pm: Lunch at the mountain top farm (bring your own lunch); the guide will prepare tea break
- 3:00pm: Going Down the Mountain
- 4:00pm: Return to Dali Ancient Town
The time may vary slightly depending on actual conditions.
The climb is 400 metres in altitude and the distance is 7 kilometres, so anyone with average fitness can complete it.
