This route is a classic hiking trail from Dali Huoshan to the Buddhist holy site, Jizu Mountain.

A hiker's perspective on documenting Jizu Mountain:

Tang Tang | The Buddhist Pilgrimage Route of Jizu Mountain

However, due to the difficulty in transportation and route planning, most people who take this route are local outdoor enthusiasts, and regular tourists rarely have the chance to walk this path.

Starting from the ancient town by car, passing through the northern part of Erhai Lake, crossing Shanggan, and heading to Huoshan from Shuanglang. The hike begins at Liantai Mountain, crossing mountains and ridges, passing through Muxiangping where shepherds graze. This place was once home to many practitioners. Standing on the mountaintop offers an endless view of the mountain range, looking west towards Huoshan, gazing at Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake in the distance, and east towards the Golden Summit and temple towers, creating an unforgettable scene where nature and religion converge, evoking deep emotions.

Every rainy season, lush grass and trees thrive, wildflowers bloom across Muxiangping, the pasture turns emerald green, large areas of high-altitude rhododendrons flourish, and cattle and sheep graze leisurely.

After passing Muxiangping, continue hiking for more than ten kilometers to reach the Golden Summit of Jizu Mountain. From the summit, take a cable car and minibus down to Jizu Mountain Town, then take a taxi back to Dali Ancient Town.

Depart from Dali Ancient Town at 7:00 AM

Total Distance: approximately 14 kilometers

Total Elevation Gain: 700 meters

  • Liantai Mountain to Muxiangping: elevation gain of 300 meters (2900-3200 meters)
  • Muxiangping to Taohua箐: elevation drop of 400 meters (3200-2800 meters)
  • Taohua箐 to Golden Summit Temple: elevation gain of 400 meters (2800-3200 meters)

Return to Dali: Around 7:00 PM

When we first explored Jizu Mountain, almost all our hiking leaders participated together—Xiaochun, Wangwang, Tailor, Lao Li, and Xiaoxi were all involved. By intuition, we all knew this would be an amazing hiking route.
