Still, this is the perfect place to visit even on a rainy day. The lake with its water birds, the clean greenery of the villages at the foot of the mountains, the hot springs in the rain. It's all a different kind of good experience.
On our trip we will experience:
*the daily milk product making workshop in Dungcheon, where you can buy a bottle of fresh milk and eat a homemade milk ice cream.
*The water lilies in the lake may be in bloom, and a peninsula in the middle of the lake holds a tree of egrets.
*For those who go to the hot spring town, take a comfortable dip in the hot springs next to the fields and wash away the day's fatigue
*tasting local food
The place to go is 55km away from dali. At the foot of the mountains and lakeside villages, not a tourist site. Pass the natural fields where the villagers work to get to the peninsula in the lake and a boat ride through the reeds to the depths of the lake. Here water birds swim not far from you, and in the distance are the remnants of the Cang Mountains and the villages below them, a landscape you may not have seen before. The peninsula in the lake is covered in greenery. The ducks, purple water fowl and egrets can be seen everywhere in the lake, often swooping and flying.
The first time I visited, it was raining lightly, and the boat was on the lake, and the reeds were green and yellow. Thinking of making a route, I would come back often. On the way there, there will be a stop at the small town of Dengchuan, the most important source of fresh milk in Dali. There are many milk fan(乳扇)making workshops in the town, with a shop in front and a workshop in the back, and we will stop at one of them to see how they make milk fans and buy a bottle of fresh cold milk or have a homemade milk lolly.
After the boat ride, it's off through the lakeside villages and fields to another Muslim centuries-old village, just in time to buy some refreshments at the village's small afternoon market. After passing hundreds of years of yellow kudzu banyan trees, a forest of trees, I knew that this village must have a long history, perhaps going back to the time when the Mongols, with the Scythians, first arrived here 800 years ago. The walk continues down a path lined with wild flowers at the foot of the hill. The path behind the village is uncrowded and high up on the hillside overlooking the village and the lake. The road is naturally scattered with tall eucalyptus and walnut trees. There is also a lake at the foot of the hill, green jade in front of us, with crop fields around it. Here we looking out over the lake and the distant mountains. The lake is lined with green lotus flowers and fishmen usually sails at the sunset time to fish.
The Egyptian papyrus, which grows in patches around the lake, is a sight not seen elsewhere. It is possible to think of the Western China ancestors who migrated here, bringing with them culturally linked plants from the Nile River in North Africa and Egypt as a link to their homeland. Sitting in the open at the edge of the lake, you can watch the smoke rising from the villages across the river.
Our final stop is Hot Spring, a favourite of Dali people in all seasons. This spa, which we visit often ourselves, is right by the fields. In the street shops, buy the specialties of the area, dairy sachima and sweet milk as a snack while in the hot springs. You can enjoy the hot spring pools by the fields or swim in the large pool. For this trip, you don't need to bring anything else but a swimming suit. After the hot springs, we will have dinner in the evening at a local restaurant in town (30-40 per person, AA). Then back on the road. Arrival time to is around 9pm. If you like the hot spring inns here too much, you can stay the night on your own and catch the shuttle bus that passes by the gate back to dali the next day.
