Tang Tang | What You Write Freely Will Meet the Right People in Time

I've been unconsciously recording these moments.
The little beekeeper's shining expression when talking about bees, and Hedong's transformation from silence to chatter.
It's not intentional; it's just that I saw it,
felt very touched, and just recorded it.
-----
This time in Dali, I participated in Cangshan natural observation, stargazing on the lake, bee observation experience, and nature craft activities. Each one could deserves its own dedicated post, but today I want to focus on that stargazing night.

That afternoon, we left the ancient town to go star-gazing at Er Yuan West Lake. The team leader was A Tu, an engineer specializing in stargazing, who also runs a public account called 'Qitu Stargazing.' When they visited the countryside in Er Yuan previously, took a boat on the lake, and found it very beautiful, which made it a fantastic stargazing spot, leading to this collaboration.
We departed from the dock near the village and sailed into West Lake under the night sky.
When A Tu talked about stars, I was actually semi-confused.
She explained which constellation was which, which planet was which,
but I mostly couldn't understand it very well. Still, the atmosphere was incredible.
The boat slowly moved across the lake, surrounded by darkness, with stars overhead, reflections on the water, and mountain silhouettes in the distance.
Then on the way back, there was a minor mishap—the boat got tangled in a fishing net.
The boatman was fixing the net, and we just sat there on the boat.
A Tu turned on the speaker and started playing music. It was all dark around, very windy outside, and only the music, wind, water sounds, starry sky, and people around me.

Jason later saw me describing this scene and
used one word: surreal.
I think he was very right; that moment indeed felt surreal.
In fact, most of the wonderful things in our lives are a bit surreal— a good book, a psychedelic romance, a movie that makes you cry, a sport you love.
These surreal moments, at a certain point, pull you out of ordinary daily life, let you breathe a full breath of oxygen, and then return to reality.
I loved that moment so much that even though everything was blurry, I still wanted to record it. Later, I sent the video to Jason, and he said, 'You can really see how much you loved that moment.'
-----
During this trip to Dali, I realized something that had been troubling me for a long time.
People say Yunnan is free. But I think, freedom isn't in the distance, nor is it in chaos. Freedom is really living the life you want, not the one to impress others. For me, once I've figured out what I want, I feel comfortable wherever I am.

I like Yunnan, but Yunnan isn't the reason I feel free. Changsha has bad weather and isn't as fun, but I never felt unfree living there. The life I have now is my choice, and I feel settled.
In the past, I did pay for a fleeting sense of freedom. But I realized that perhaps I was just dissatisfied with my life back then.
Friends often tell me they want to climb Haba Snow Mountain, hike in Yubeng, and do some seemingly free-spirited things. I understand that impulse, but sometimes I wonder—do I really need to go through something to prove that I am alive?
People trapped in the city just want to see the countryside's wind and grasslands.
This time in Shaxi and Dali, seeing ancient trees that are five or six hundred years old, our city folks' first reaction is to rush up and hug them.
Locals don't understand; what's so great about hugging a tree?
But for us, hugging really makes us feel the energy.

Is traveling meaningful? Yes.
Do you need to travel all the time? No.
Are you free? You are inherently free.
Tonight, there are stars over the lake, and I am no longer in a rush to make wishes.
This was the朋友圈 I posted on the penultimate day in Dali.
When Jason
-----
Regarding Jason
He said: "Yes, that's wonderful."

When I was writing this, I was still wondering why Jason said my records are different from typical travel reviews.
Maybe because when I write, I subconsciously focus not on 'is this place fun to visit,' but on 'how are the people here.'
Is bee observation fun? Yes, it is.
But what truly moved me was the way the young man glowed while talking about bees.
Is stargazing romantic? Yes, it is.
What really stayed with me was those ten minutes when the boat was entangled in fishing nets, and in the darkness, only the music and the stars remained.
Is the mushroom cabin cute? Yes, it is.
What I cherish is that two children made mushroom lamps inside, while we carried stools to sit outside and chat while basking in the sun, with Cangshan behind us.
Activities are the medium; talents are the content.
Jason said he could see 'the changes year after year, including a really good studio, and can see her growth trajectory.'
This made me realize that what Cangshan Trekking Home is doing and what I am doing share the same underlying logic.
We are both building something with a sense of time depth.
Not a one-time consumable item, but a growing system.
They change every year, each leader grows, everyone who visits takes away different things and leaves different records. These records, layered together, form a warm brand.
My content creation is the same. Each moment on Moments, each podcast episode, each article—taken alone, they may seem insignificant. But when accumulated, they become 'a record of time and people.'
This is compound interest.
Not compound interest for quick profits, but the compound interest of people and content.
----
Writing here, I thought of a final remark Jason made during our chat.
He said: "Time is really magical."
Yes. Two years ago, when I first came to Dali, He Chen was still a silent newcomer, and I was just a tourist here to have fun.
Two years later, he became one of the best guides, and I found what I truly want to do. All of this converged in the moments I casually recorded back then.
They quietly remain there,
waiting for someone who can see 'time and people.'
So if you're hesitating whether to start recording your life,
I want to tell you: go ahead and write.
You don’t need to write perfectly, nor do many people need to see it. You just need to be sincere. Because sincere recordings don’t expire; they ferment slowly over time and, one day, will be seen by the right person.
At that moment, you’ll realize that what you thought was just casual writing is actually the best asset you’ve accumulated for your future self.
