Go to the market (every town has a market once a week)

Going to the market is a very vivid folk custom for most people who have lived in cities for a long time. In Yunnan, in most rural areas, each town still retains the tradition of holding a market about once a week.

• March Street is the closest market to Dali Ancient Town. It is a bit touristy, but it mainly meets the needs of local life.
• Yinqiao Town is located outside of March Street and is the closest to the ancient city (10km). It is also a local market and is a recommended choice.

March Street Market ( March Street outside Cangshan Gate in Dali Ancient City ): The closest to the ancient city. It is held four times a month on the second, ninety-sixth, and twenty-third days of the lunar calendar. It is very lively, with food and drinks, fruits, earthenware pots, brooms, flowers, birds, fish, and insects. It is full of life. The prices are very affordable. New immigrants are also setting up stalls there, selling coffee, handmade products, and bread.

Yinqiao Town (10km): Toupu Farmers’ Market , on the 5th, 13th, 20th and 28th of the lunar calendar.

Wanqiao Town (15km): Wanqiao Farmers’ Market , on the 4th, 11th, 18th and 26th of the lunar calendar.

Xizhou Town (25km: Town South Vegetable Market (Long Street) , 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd of the lunar calendar. Note: Long Street is in Zuoyi, 3.5 km south of Xizhou Ancient Town

Shangguan Town (35km): Jiangwei Farmers Market every Saturday (one of the stops in the rural cycling activity with Brother Ding is to go to Jiangwei for the market)

Fengyu Town, Eryuan County (85km): Fengyu Farmers Market . If you happen to go to Fengyu, there is a market every Tuesday. It is a bit far away, about 2 hours by car. We have a Fengyu market event and visit the surrounding ancient villages.
